AGON Film Festival
International Meeting of Archaeological Film of the Mediterranean Area ...and beyond

About AGON Festival

The International Meeting of Archaeological Film of the Mediterranean Area is taking place every 2 years and it is organised by the non-profit association AGON. The first Meeting took place in 1996.

The decision to organise AGON was based on the fact that the influence of Greek civilisation in this area was decisive for the development of the cultural identity of contemporary societies.

Our goal is to make a positive contribution to the preservation of our common heritage and to the deeper understanding of those elements which have united us since antiquity around the wonderful Mediterranean Sea. The archaeological films are the paramount means for the dissemination of knowledge of the ancient world to the public. The image is immediate and speaks all languages. So AGON is declared international and its subject is Archaeology in the Mediterranean. And by the term Archaeology we mean the search even into the recent past, since there is no turning back in time.

Since 2002, AGON is a founding member of the European Federation of Archaeology and Patrimony Film Festivals.

AGON Festival is under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and the Lambrakis Foundation.
